Matt Peiken

I've spent my entire professional life as a journalist. I most recently spent 5-1/2 years with the NPR affiliate in Asheville, NC, leaving in February 2023 to launch Podcast Asheville and The Overlook.

Here’s a story Mountain Xpress newspaper produced about the work I’m doing with The Overlook (May 10, 2023).

I came to public radio after a long career in print journalism-most notably 10 years as an arts and features staff writer with the St. Paul Pioneer Press. I later reported on the arts for the digital arm of WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.

I've launched, hosted and self-produced two of my own podcasts: Metal Brainiac, a heavy metal interview program; and Too Long_ Didn't Listen, a short-lived show featuring interviews with others in public radio producing interesting podcasts.

I've founded and managed a variety of on line journalism efforts, including the on line video program 3-Minute Egg and the community op-ed page Opine Season. I've also served as managing editor of the Walker Art Center's magazine and was a longtime contributing writer to Modern Drummer Magazine.
